Harford Community College recently held a ceremony to recognize 38 students who completed the accelerated Cyber Defense certificate program. The ceremony included remarks by Project Director Dawn Grissom; an industry speaker, Tamera Rush, President and CEO of Tenax Technologies; student speaker Travis Duncan; and John Mayhorne, HCC Dean of Business, Education, Computing and Applied Technology.
HCC’s Cyber Defense Certificate educates students in cybersecurity, prepares them for industry-recognized certificates, and positions them for entry-level employment in a rapidly growing field. Cohort-oriented classes are offered in the evening in the new cybersecurity labs located in Joppa Hall. The 39-credit accelerated certificate can be completed in less than one year. Upon completion, participants will be prepared to sit for industry-recognized certifications such as Comp TIA’s Net+, Security+, Linux+, and Cisco Certified Entry Networking Technician (CCENT) and will have the opportunity to gain entry to positions that lead to a rewarding and challenging career in cybersecurity.
Students desiring to further their education beyond the Cyber Defense Certificate can stack their college credits to articulate to Harford Community College's Information Assurance and Cybersecurity A.A.S. degree and ultimately to a bachelor's degree.
Harford's Information Assurance and Cybersecurity program has been designated as a National Center of Academic Excellence by the National Security Agency and the Department of Homeland Security. This designation, which covers academic years 2014-2020, recognizes the quality and rigor of HCC’s Cyber program.
The Cyber Defense program is funded by a Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career Training (TAACCCT) grant that is co-administered by the Departments of Labor and Department of Education.
The next cohort begins on January 22, 2018. For more information, contact Christine Brown, email@example.com, 443-412-2098.
